The Quick and Dirty: Juliana uncharacteristially has a one-night stand with a handsome stranger who turns out to be not only a former NFL player, but a client; the father of the bride whose wedding Juliana is planning. The two connect but Juliana is reluctant to risk her heart again after having suffered a tragic loss.
Another solid contemporary romance from Jenna Hartley! While there are age-gap and single-dad elements, they are not truly central to the story. The romance speaks the loudest.
I love Juliana and Harrison together! They give me the warm and fuzzies. 🥰💗 As a reader I felt like I was vested in the outcome of their relationship pretty early on in the book. They’re a great couple, supportive of each other while avoiding the pitfalls of being co-dependent. Their chemistry was tangible, and not just in the bedroom (though they’re pretty hot there too)! I think the fact that the characters are a little bit older made a huge difference for me too. There was a level of confidence and maturity that was innate to the characters which helped focus the story on their relationship and the obstacles they faced as a couple versus attempting to wade through new adult self-discovery and self-actualization. These characters already know who they are and what they want.
That’s not to say that there wasn’t twists and turns. There were definitely moments of dramatic irony as we learn more about what is holding each of them back from fully committing to one another but not so much so that it leaves the reader overly anxious or frustrated with the characters. It’s just the right amount of drama and written organically.
Overall, Jenna has knocked another one out of the park! Strong, boss-babe FMC, supportive and equally strong MMC, and a wholly satisfying HEA. Sounds like the perfect weekend read to me! Go download it.
** I was a beta reader for this book. I was offered an ARC in exchange for a voluntary and honest review. **
Sleeping with the father of the bride—a former NFL player and one of Hollywood’s most eligible bachelors—was not part of the plan.
It was only supposed to be one night.
One night to forget.
But he made me feel wanted.
I’d been down this road before, and it only ended in disaster.
Was I willing to risk my heart again?
Unpredictable is an age gap romance with a guaranteed HEA. No cheating. No cliffhanger.
Contemporary romance author, Jenna Hartley writes about strong, independent women and the men who dare to love them. Her characters aren’t perfect; they’re authentic. Her passion is to make their stories feel as real for readers as they do to her, infusing each one with sexy, sweet, and laughable moments that reflect real love.
When she’s not writing, Jenna spends her days chasing after a hilarious and imaginative toddler, as well as hunting down new allergy-friendly recipes for them to cook together. She lives in Texas with her family and loves nothing more than a good book, good chocolate, and Topo Chico.
