The Quick and Dirty: A rare beauty is taken from her rural family under the promise of earning money as a maid in the big city (Mumbai). She is instead brought to a high-end brothel where she is to be prepared and sold to the highest bidder in a contract pleasure marriage under Sharia Law. When captive and captor fall for each other, things get complicated and Darius will have to find a way to rescue Gini from the powerful Iranian man she’s been promised to.

This isn’t your standard contemporary romance. Be prepared to be taken around the world on a journey that is as beautifully written and enthralling as it is gut-wrenching. The story transports you into the dark underbelly of a world where culture, faith and tradition clash with personal freedom and identity; where love seemingly has no place. And yet, love prevails. This isn’t a “rainbows and butterflies, tied with a bow” kind of book though. While I’m no stranger to dark reads, I’m not going to lie, the feminist in me had a hard time with certain sections. I had to keep reminding myself that I was viewing it from the lens of a person outside of the faith and outside of the culture.

What I really loved was was the internal struggle and the grit of the characters. That drive to survive and to do what it took had me inspired. Gini isn’t the guns blazing heroine but she fights in her own ways and while Darius is all straight-up-killer, IDGAF vibes, he also has that moral struggle that drives him to do the right thing in the end. The resolution of the book after all their struggle felt a little abrupt in comparison but overall there is a reason Jessica Ruben is one of my faves. She excels at her craft and I can’t wait to see what this series has in store for the next installment! Where are she going to take me next?

Darius is a man with power and control.

As a child in the Mumbai slums, living among lethal street gangs, all he cared about was his safety and where he would find his next meal.
That is, until the Madam of the most famed brothel in India finds him, offering him a life he can’t refuse.

As an intelligent, beautiful woman raised in a small mountain village, Gini never would have imagined a place like The Mansion exists.
Stolen by Darius into a dark underworld where the famed Mullah Omar arranges pleasure marriages to the highest bidder, Gini fights for survival.
At first frightened by the dangerous man who keeps her prisoner, Darius slowly becomes the one light in her dark world.

The Madam. The Mullah. The Protector. The Beauty.
Who will win when money reigns supreme and power is everything?
