The Quick and Dirty: Big city lawyer comes home to sell her late father’s estate but things get complicated when she finds out that the infuriatingly handsome ex-firefighter-turned-builder currently co-owns the property and has no intention of selling.
Audrey has a complicated relationship with her father and when he dies, she dreads heading back to California to deal with his estate. To her dismay, she finds that her father left the house not only in her name, but also to an irritating, absolutely annoying, infuriatingly handsome ex-firefighter who now builds tiny homes and has one on the property! When the two go head-tohead about the plans for the house and how they feel about Audrey’s father (who saved Ethan from the brink of self-destruction unbeknownst to her), things start to unravel. Both have pasts that haunt them and what starts off as sparks from the two hating each other slowly turns into a fire that burns bright by the end of the book.
I sometimes have a hard time with small town romances because they feel slow or I can’t quite connect with the characters but I loved the pacing of this book and the dynamic between Audrey and Ethan. The relationship felt organic and while there was definitely some drama to move things along, it didn’t feel forced. I loved that they were also able to support and help each other face and overcome the trauma of their pasts (yessss to healthy relationships!). Another thing to love is the ancillary characters that crossover from the Everyday Heroes World which makes me want to read that series too!
Overall an great read that I’d highly recommend to anyone who loves enemies-to-lovers with some heat! 🔥
